Rachel Elizabeth Miller Fife was the only child of Robert H. Miller (1877-1940) and Louella Bovard Miller (1879-1947). Rae was born in Cherry Valley, a small village just south of Emlenton, PA. When she was young, the family moved to the Pittsburgh suburbs of Wilkensburg and Crafton before residing in an area neighboring West Elizabeth, PA. Rae Miller and Sam Fife began dating when they were students at Clairton High School.

After high school graduation, Rae entered nurses training and Sam began a career in engineering and construction, They were married in Clairton on August 30, 1924. Sam's work was mainly as Erecting Engineer engaged in the construction of steel mill coke batteries. He retired from Pittsburgh-based Koppers Company in 1964. Sam and Rae had four children, two boys and two girls. In 1939, the family moved from Franklin, PA to Clairton, and in 1947 they settled on a farm near Beaver, Pennsylvnia.

Rae and Sam Fife's four children are Samuel Robinson Fife Jr. (b 08/24/1926), Robert Lee Fife (b 04/21/1933), Sally Lou Fife (b 10/23/1934), and Rae Nancy Fife Zuberbuhler (b 09/21/1937).

Sam Jr. and his wife, Lee, reside at the farm near Beaver, PA. They have one married daughter who lives in Cleveland with her husband and two children. Sally Fife and her husband, John Dumbrill, live in Santa Rosa, CA. Sally has three married children and three grandchildren. Rae and Dick Zuberbuhler have a lovely country home near Beaver Falls, PA, and their two married daughters and three grandchildren live in Pittsburgh suburbs.

Bob Fife is retired and living in Florida. His son, Eric, resides in Denver, CO where he did his graduate studies and where he's now employed in the computer software business. Bob's daughter and Eric's sister, Robyn, passed away in November 2001 after an extended illness. She was very much loved and hers is truly a tragic loss.
